On Saturday 6th September 2025, PCWA hosted a barbecue for our members to say thank you for supporting the Palestinian Community of Western Australia. The informal afternoon gathering was held in West Perth with over 200 attendees.
Our guests included healthcare workers, teachers, parents, church leaders, artists and students, who all came together to express unity, grief, anger, joy and commitment to sharing Palestinian culture.
A special thank you goes to our guest speaker, Menang woman of the Noongar Nation, Megan Krakouer. Megan is an award winning activist, prominent social justice advocate, arbitrator for the voiceless and law reformer. We learned about the National Suicide Prevention and Trauma Recovery Project and the important work being done to prevent suicide of First Nations people. Part proceeds ($500) from ticket sales will go directly to support the Suicide Prevention Project.
We also heard from Mustafa, our PCWA Chair, who provided an update on some of the work being done by PCWA. Mustafa said, “rather than be defined only by our trauma, we choose to highlight our resilience, creativity, and the ways we contribute to wider society”.
Emily, a long standing ally and friend of PCWA commented, “What a wonderful afternoon full of old friends and new. A really welcoming atmosphere with great music, speeches and the sounds of laughter. There were some fun activities and homemade gifts made by the people of Gaza. And to end the day we enjoyed listening to kids practice a new song on the piano – so sweet. A fantastic joyful time. ✨❣️”.
PCWA was honoured to recognise the efforts and contributions from all parts of our wider community to support our local Palestinian community. Many guests expressed a deep gratitude to the PCWA members for the hospitality shown.
